Event debates nature-based interventions in Latin America
A free webinar on October 17 will look at how nature-based practices can benefit health; open for registration

How can nature-based interventions (NBI) support health and connection across diverse communities in Latin America? In regions facing social, ecological, and health inequalities, innovative approaches are emerging to bridge people and nature in new ways.
From digital platforms guiding mindful engagement with nature to social prescriptions that combat loneliness, these interventions are helping redefine care beyond clinics.
Initiatives like this that use nature to promote well-being, connections, and equality across Latin American countries, will be the focus of debate during the virtual event Nature-based Interventions in Latin America – From Research to Practice: Overcoming Barriers and Building Strengths, taking place on October 17, at 11 a.m. (BRT) — 4 p.m. Central European Time (CET).
Promoted by Resilience Through Nature-Based Therapies (RESONATE), an initiative funded by Horizon Europe (the European Union’s leading science support program), the webinar will bring together researchers from Brazil and Equador to discuss the challenges and opportunities in implementing and investigating nature-based intervention models in the Global South.

The event will enable reflection on how different natural settings can shape both individual and ecological outcomes.
“Nature-based interventions are practices carried out directly or indirectly in natural environments with the aim of generating health benefits and enhancing our connection with nature,” explains nurse Giulia Catissi, currently working toward her doctorate in health sciences at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, and one of the event’s organizers.
“Some examples of interventions are therapeutic gardens, forest bathing, and viewing images of nature through VR headsets,” she adds.
Speakers at the webinar:
- Lis Leão [Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein – Brazil]
- Silvana Vintimilla [Universidad de Cuenca – Ecuador];
- David Acurio [Universidad de Cuenca – Ecuador];
- Felipe Feliciani [WWF Brazil].

Global Spotlight Series
The event Nature-based Interventions in Latin America is part of the Global Spotlights series run over the course of 2025 by the RESONATE project, with the aim of gathering researchers and other practitioners from around the globe to talk about the most recent insights and innovations in nature-based therapies.
The initiative is running ten online and five in-person events, in Pádua (Italy), Seoul (South Korea), Salzburg (Austria), and two in Barcelona (Spain). The organization says that the gatherings are also aimed at creating opportunities for networking and international collaborations.
