Registration is open for the new edition of the São Paulo Innovation and Science Diplomacy School (InnSciD SP), the Global South’s first school dedicated to innovation and science diplomacy, an initiative launched in 2019 by USP and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

With the theme Global Health and Climate Change, InnSciD 2025 will be held in hybrid format between August 4 and 8, in partnership with Science Arena and Einstein Hospital Israelita, which will host part of the event in its Albert Einstein Education and Research Center – Cecilia & Abram Szajman Campus, São Paulo.

“We arrive at the 7th edition casting a close eye on the intersection between global health and climate change, mindful of the United Nations Climate Change Conference [COP30] to be held in Pará State in November,” explains Amâncio Jorge de Oliveira, executive coordinator of InnSciD SP and professor at the Center for International Negotiation Studies (CAENI) of the USP Institute for International Relations.

The aim is to address the matter from a science and innovation diplomacy standpoint, discussing how diplomacy comes into the question of climate and health, based on regulations, protocols, and international actions.

This year’s event will look at a wide range of topics, including:

Special attention will also be paid to the Brazilian scientific ecosystem, with a look at international case studies on environmental diplomacy, science policy, and innovation in public health.

“The course includes high-level lectures, debates, and panels with renowned international specialists,” says Oliveira.

“The participants will have the opportunity to obtain relevant insights on how scientific collaboration and diplomacy can contribute to tackling one of the most urgent issues we face today: the impact of climate change, linked to human action, on global health,” adds the professor.

Oliveira sees the partnership with Science Arena as essential, since the publication has focused its coverage on health and climate collapse. “The collaboration of Einstein is also important, as a philanthropic organization dedicated to the hard work of debating and understanding the consequences of the climate crisis for global health.”

InnSciD 2025 is organized by USP’s Institute for Advanced Studies (IEA) in collaboration with CAENI, the Political Science Department (DCP-FFLCH-USP), and the Interamerican Institute for Global Change Research (IAI).

This year’s edition is supported by institutional partners, including Science Arena, a nonprofit scientific journalism initiative of Einstein Hospital Israelita; the José Luiz Setúbal Foundation; Inova USP; the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), and the São Paulo State Department for Science, Technology, and Innovation.
